Make That UK Horse Racing System Work by Learning the Type of Races!
Obtaining that foolproof UK horse racing system or having loads of money for betting are futile if you don’t understand the different kinds of races you’re betting on. Just because you see horses and jockeys outrunning each other doesn’t mean the race is the same. If there are sprints, middle distance, long distance, marathons, relays, hurdling, road running, and race walking in track and field, horse racing have a variety of races, too. Let’s take a look at what these are. 1. Classic Race. This type of race, as the name goes, is encased in heritage. It has a lot of tradition backing it up and is participated in by three-year old horses. A classic race run by male horses is called a Derby, while the ones run by females is referred to as an Oaks. 2. Derby and Oaks Races. These races are popularly known for being a stakes race. A fee is required from thoroughbred owners before their colts or fillies can enter a race. This fee may serve different purposes: it can be an eligibility fee for the owner so he or she can enter his or her horse in that particular race each time it takes place, it can serve as a nominating fee, or it can serve as an entering or a starting entry fee. 3. Route Race. This is a race that has a span of over a mile, sometimes more, and is run around in two turns. 4. Sprint Race. This is usually run with just a single turn, a sprint race spans less than a mile. Juveniles and yearlings usually enter this type of race before moving on to the ones with longer distances. 5. Maiden Race. First time runners usually participate in this type of race. The horses are all equal in standing, considering that they haven’t won in any race yet. The thoroughbred emerging as the winner in a maiden race is usually announced using the popular phrase "breaking his maiden", having had won for the first time in his career. Horses running in a maiden race are usually 2 years old and called juveniles. However, some horses reach three years of age before breaking their maiden. 6. Claiming Race. This is a race participated by thoroughbreds who are up for sale upon conclusion of the race. 7. Graded Race. These races are classified into I, II, III levels, taking into account the value of previous winners. It also takes into account the influence of a particular race over other championships and racing events. It is considered one of the most prestigious races in the USA. 8. Group Race. This is Europe’s equivalent of the Graded Race. 9. Conditioned Race. In this type of race, thoroughbred eligibility is assessed to determine if it meets race conditions. Before a horse can enter the race, his age, sex, and race records are the main conditions for eligibility. 10. Overnight Race. Runners for this race are finalized before the running hours begin. 11. Distaff Race. This is an allowance race where weights and performance of mares and/or fillies are considered for eligibility requirements. 12. Invitational Race. There is no entry fee required but this race is open only to invited participants. 13. Handicap Race. A track handicapper or a racing secretary sets each entry to carry different weights.
